The Lion King is getting a remake. Walt Disney Studios have confirmed the 're-imagining' of the classic 1994 film will be directed by Jon Favreau.

The news follows the success of The Jungle Book, which took on over $965 million at the box office in April.
A statement read:
"The Lion King builds on Disney’s success of reimagining its classics for a contemporary audience with films like Maleficent, Cinderella, and the upcoming Beauty and the Beast."
It's reported The Lion King will include songs from the animated film.
The Lion King is one of the biggest animated films of all time after grossing $968.8 million at the box office.
