He beat out fellow Irish man Barry Keoghan for the award, as well as Bradley Cooper (Maestro), Colman Domingo (Rustin), Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers), and Teo Yoo (Past Lives).
Paul Mescal was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in All Of Us Strangers but lost out to Robert Downey Jr, who scooped up another win for Oppenheimer.
Oppenheimer was the big winner of the night, taking home 7 BAFTAs, including Best Picture and Best Director. It was a big moment for Christopher Nolan as, despite his years of a nominations and critical acclaim for his filmmaking, this was his first BAFTA.
