She's set to write and star in the live-action film!
“The Bear” star Ayo Edebiri is set to write the screenplay and star in the upcoming live-action “Barney” movie.
The children's film will be co-developed and produced by A24 and Daniel Kaluuya’s 59% Productions in partnership with Barney IP owner Mattel Films.
When it was first announced in October 2019, People reported that the film would "will speak to the nostalgia of the brand in a way that will resonate with adults, while entertaining today’s kids". The long-awaited adaptation has been in the works for over seven years, and now, the first details are being released.

Best known for her Emmy-winning role on FX’s “The Bear,” Ayo recently voiced Envy in Pixar’s “Inside Out 2”. She is set to star in the psychological thriller 'Opus', which is expected to be released on the 14th of March, as well as Luca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt”, alongside Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield, which will be released later this year on the 10th of October.
