Angelina Jolie-Pitt has signed on to produce a new animated film called 'The Breadwinner'.
The story is based on the life of a young girl living under the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. When her father is unfairly jailed, the girl must disguise herself as a boy and become the breadwinner of the family.
The film is based on Deborah Ellis' acclaimed young adult novel of the same name.
Speaking in an interview, Angelina said that "Millions of young girls like Parvana are growing up today under oppression or conflict, and helping their families to survive in those conditions. This story is a reminder of the immense value of their contribution". She went on to say how excited she was to be working with the Irish company:
"I am delighted to be working with a talented team of artists who I know will do justice to the richness, creativity and strength of Afghan culture and to little girls like Parvana."
The film is being produced by Irish animation company, Cartoon Saloon, who produced the recently released 'Song of the Sea'.
