Justice Minister Helen McEntee has tested positive for COVID-19.

Minister McEntee says she will continue carrying out her duties remotely while isolating, and will attend Cabinet meetings remotely.

The minister - who announced her pregnancy late last year - says health advice shows pregnant women and their babies are not at higher risk from the virus.

In a series of tweets confirming the positive test, she said: "I urge everyone to follow public health advice and stay at home.

"If you think you’re developing symptoms no matter how small, act as though you have Covid.

"We all know the seriousness of the situation. We must protect our health system and our most vulnerable."

Last month, Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue tested positive for the virus - prompting other ministers to temporarily restrict their movements until they'd received a negative test result.

Cabinet meets today to sign-off on new restrictions, including for schools and the construction sector.
