Michaela McCollum is to be sentenced next Tuesday for her part in attempting to smuggle cocaine out of Peru.
The 20 year old last night pleaded guilty to drug trafficking.
The Tyrone native and her Scottish friend – 20 year old Melissa Reid – were arrested at Lima Airport last month trying to board a plane with 11 kilos of coke in their luggage.
Both claim they were forced to by an armed gang, but having pleaded guilty the pair now face a shorter setence.
It’s thought they could now serve 6 years and 8 months each – without lengthy waits between prosecution hearings.
