The Health Minister is considering making it mandatory for parents to vaccinate their children.
It follows a drop in uptake of some jabs, which has led to a rise in certain viruses spreading.
Figures from UNICEF show measles cases in Ireland jumped by more than 200% in a year.
The rise is, in part, being blamed on misinformation and scaremongering on social media.
Mandatory Vaccinations
The government is now considering whether or not it should make vaccinating children mandatory.
The Health Minister has written to the Attorney General for legal advice on doing so.
Simon Harris says misinformed people are putting others at risk.
He described it as "irresponsible", and "against the public good".
Minister Harris has also criticised politicians who have raised concerns about vaccines.
The government will be looking at how other countries deal with the issue of un-vaccinated children attending school.
