Manchester United players 'a bunch of whinge bags' | Neville

Gary Neville didn't hold back in his criticism of Manchester United last night.

The visitors put in an underwhelming display in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle at St James' Park.

Edinson Cavani salvaged a point for Ralf Rangnick's side, but Newcastle were left to rue not taking all three points.

They had their chances to go 2-0 up following Allan Saint Maximin's opener, while they also pushed late on for a lead goal.

It was the opening half display - and the attitude of the Manchester United players - that incensed Neville, who was on duty as a pundit with Sky Sports.

"They're a bunch of whinge-bags," he said at half-time.

"Watch them on that pitch. I'll not go into names but they're whinging at each other, arms up in the air complaining about everything.

"Honestly, they were absolutely shocking in that first half."

He referred back to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's time as boss, and how players applied themselves under the Norweigan.

"They got the last manager the sack.

"Ralf Rangnick is not going to get the sack, he's only had two or three weeks with them, but they'll get a lot of managers the sack if they carry on like that, because that's a really, really poor performance.

"It's only 45 minutes but they've got to sort themselves out because that's massively below anything expected."

"There's no pressing, no urgency, the basics of the game," he continued. "Every single battle of the game they've lost. That's been a really poor performance.

"Not one single thing has gone right as a team. Not one single player can go in at half-time and say they've done their jobs or done themselves justice."

Manchester United are now seven points adrift of the top four - though they have two games in hand on fourth-placed Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Newcastle remain mired in relegation trouble in 19th, second-from-bottom, two points off safety.
