A man was rescued from the River Liffey overnight.

He ended up in the water at Victoria Quay near Heuston Station at around 10.15pm.

A passerby managed to throw in a life buoy to help the man and he was out of the river by the time emergency services arrived.

He was taken to St. James Hospital to get checked over.
