A young man has been jailed for four years for making a 12-year-old girl perform a sex act on him, which he recorded and shared with another person.
The court heard they arranged to meet up in a Dublin location after chatting online through Facebook.
The man, now 20, was 16 at the time of these offences.
After chatting to the then 12-year-old girl online, they arranged to meet in a park in Dublin.
She later told Gardaí she felt unsafe going there and believed something bad was going to happen, but didn't listen to her gut.
The court heard he took a video of her performing a sex act on him and shared it with a third party.
She said photos were also taken by other boys and he threatened to share them if she didn't perform the same act on another boy a few days later.
As a result of what happened, the girl said she quit sport, stopped taking public transport and became suicidal.
Today, Mr. J Michael White said society had to try and protect young children through difficult years of dealing with their sexuality.
He said what happened went way beyond consent, and he added there was a degree of cruelty involved too.
He then sentenced the man to four years in prison.
