The man who was jailed for 30 years last month for the lead role he played in the abduction and torture of Kevin Lunney can now be named.
Alan Harte, of Island Quay Apartments in East Wall, Dublin 3, couldn’t be identified until now because he was due to stand trial for an unrelated murder.
At his sentence hearing, Alan Harte was described as the “ringleader” in the false imprisonment and serious assault of Kevin Lunney in 2019.
The court was satisfied he was the one who inflicted most of the injuries to the director of Quinn Industrial Holdings.
Throughout his trial and even after he was convicted and sentenced, he was referred to as YZ because of a court order protecting his identify.
Remember YZ?
The man we couldn't name during Kevin Lunney's abduction trial. Well, we can now...
YZ is Alan Harte (40), of Island Quay Apartments, East Wall, Dublin.
He was due to stand trial for an unrelated murder. That's why we couldn't name him. That charge was dropped.— Frank Greaney (@FrankGreaney) January 18, 2022
He was due to stand trial for an unrelated murder so it was felt it could have been prejudicial to name him.
That charge was dropped last year but the order remained in place.
Today, his lawyers tried to have it extended because of other criminal matters that may be heard in the coming months. However, their application was refused.
Harte has 180 previous convictions, including one for helping to get rid of a murder victim’s body, a crime for which he was handed a three-year prison sentence for.
