A Brazilian man has been found not guilty of murdering his wife, by reason of insanity.
Diego Costa Silva stabbed Fabiola Camada de Campos to death at their apartment at Charlestown Place in Finglas on the 4th of November 2021.
Two days before Diego Costa Silva killed his wife, gardai found him running barefoot and practically naked through Dublin city.
They took him to hospital, where he was assessed and allowed to leave the following day.
Tragically, he then went on to decapitate his wife, Fabiola Camada de Campos.
Experts for both the defence and the prosecution were in agreement that at the time, he was suffering from a psychotic disorder, brought on by taking cannabis.
The jury heard he remained in a psychotic state for almost two weeks.
After deliberating for just a couple of hours, the 35 year old was found not guilty of murder, by reason of insanity
He will now be further assessed in the Central Mental Hospital before a decision is made on the best course of action for him going forward.
