A man has told the Stardust Inquests he initially thought the fire was small until a bouncer lifted a screen.
48 young people lost their lives when the blaze broke out at the nightclub in North Dublin in February 1981.
Thomas Larkin was 26 years old when he attended the Stardust nightclub.
He says the DJ had announced it was the last slow set for the night when he heard someone shout fire.
Speaking this morning, Mr Larkin said the fire was small at first but then got bigger and worse when a bouncer pushed up a screen.
He described the nightclub going completely dark and someone helping him out.
There was screaming he saw a girl in a white blouse so he went back in and dragged her out.
He said he now knows that woman to be Antoinette Keegan.
The jury heard he kicked at something to free her but didn't know she had been holding on to her sister's hand who died in the fire.
The inquests continue.
