A man charged with murder following the stabbing of Ademola Giwa in Tallaght in Dublin last year has been sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court.

The 25 year old was stabbed in the neck during a row on the 10th of August in the Mac Uilliam Road area.

He was taken to Tallaght Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

26 year old John Titiloye of Mac Uilliam Crescent in Tallaght was charged with his murder and was remanded in custody on August 13.

He appeared again today via video-link at Cloverhill District Court, and remained silent during the hearing.

A date for his next hearing has not yet been set.

Evidence

Detective Garda Michael McGrath served the prosecution's book of evidence which defence solicitor Padraig O'Donovan accepted on his client’s behalf.

Judge Patricia Cronin noted the Director of Public Prosecutions consented to Mr Titiloye being sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court.

She granted the return for trial order and told the accused he must notify the prosecution within 14 days if he has an alibi. The judge also ordered gardai to hand over copies of video interviews to the defence.

She also acceded to Mr O'Donovan's request to grant legal aid to include senior counsel representation in the trial. The solicitor said his client was unemployed.

A date for his next hearing has not yet been set.

The solicitor explained to the accused that his case would be listed in the Central Criminal Court before the end of the court legal term, and consultations would be arranged.

He was remanded in continuing custody.

The District Court does not have the jurisdiction to consider bail in murder cases, which requires an application in the High Court.

The accused remained silent during the hearing today.

At his first hearing last August, the district court heard Mr Titiloye replied "not guilty" when gardai charged him.

As a teenager, Mr Giwa, a fitness instructor, played with Marks Celtic football club. He grew up in the community and lived with his family at Mac Uilliam Parade.

Gardai arrested the accused in Dundalk, Co. Louth, a day after Mr Giwa’s death.
