Gardaí in Dublin are questioning a man as part of an investigation into sim-swapping, account takeover and money laundering.
The 27 year-old was arrested yesterday after a home was searched in Tallaght.
He was detained as part of an ongoing investigation by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau into sim-swapping, account takeover and money laundering.
Gardaí had identified a supplier of SIM cards, used to facilitate smishing or sim swap fraud.
It followed an extensive investigation into fraudulent sim swap attacks, targeting customers of an Irish bank, that resulted in losses of around €200,000. A man has already been charged and convicted in connection with the case.
The man arrested yesterday is being questioned at Clondalkin Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.
Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
