The money was seized after officers from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau intercepted a heavy goods vehicle which had left the Port Tunnel on Monday night.
A 34-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of involvement with a criminal organisation and facilitating money laundering related to the suspected proceeds of drug trafficking.
He is currently being questioned at Mountjoy Garda Station and is being held under section 50 of Criminal Justice Act, 2007.
The seizure brings the total amount of cash seized by personnel from the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau to over €24 million since the establishment of the Bureau in 2015.
