Major changes to speed limits are on the way for the country's roads.
They're set to reduce on national secondary roads from 100km per hour to 80.
While it will go from 80 to 60 on rural and local roads and it'll reduce to 30 km in residential areas, towns and cities.
The changes won't affect motorways or primary roads like the N7.
Junior Transport Minister Jack Chambers feels change is necessary following a rise in road deaths.
''Rural and local roads which are about 85 per cent of the network have 75 per cent of the fatalities on our roads. They are the very narrow country roads. We get feedback from many people that the speed limit on these roads is inappropriate so the proposal is to reduce it from 80km per hour to 60.''
