A major fire which broke out at the Ringaskiddy deepwater port in Co Cork is now under control, the Port of Cork confirmed.

Emergency services remain at the scene to monitor the area but there have been no reports of any casualties.

The blaze happened at a grain storage facility in the R&H Hall at the Deepwater Berth this morning.

The 'Port Emergency Plan' was activated after reports of the fire first emerged at around 8.45am this morning.

Images on social media showed a large cloud of smoke and tall flames rising from the building.

The Port Company says all ship operations in Ringaskiddy have been suspended as a precaution until further notice.

Earlier, it advised local residents to remain indoors and to keep their doors and windows shut.
