The operator of the National Lottery will tell politicians today it has sought regulatory approval for a ‘must-be-won draw’.
It follows controversy over the €19 million jackpot, which hasn't been won for six months. The top prize was last won on June 5th.
The head of Premier Lotteries Ireland will tell the Oireachtas Finance Committee it wants to ensure a long wait for a capped jackpot win cannot occur again.
Fine Gael TD and member of the Oireachtas Committee Bernard Durkan says the long wait isn't a good look for the lottery:
"The delay in winning the major prize again could go on for six months more, or a year more. We will be interested to hear about that because I'm not certain that that would be good for the lottery and might cause people to become frustrated and annoyed."
Deputy Durkan had previously said that "the prospect of winning is so remote that punters must be thinking Shergar would have a better chance at winning Squid Game".
