Liffey Valley Shopping Centre has been granted permission for a €135 million extension.

South Dublin County Council approved of the expansion, on the condition that property group Hines invest 4.2 million euro in public infrastructure for the area.

The proposed extension includes two large retail units either side of the public plaza.

A retail assessment submitted as part of the planning application shows the shopping centre will produce annual retail revenues of €462.56 million by 2025.

But the development has been met with some opposition locally.

The nearby Square Shopping Centre strong opposed the extension, saying it would have "major impacts" on their business.

It also warned the proposal could have a "detrimental economic effect on [other] retailers" in the Tallaght area.
