The number of texts sent every year is continuing to decline.
1.6 billion SMS messages were sent in Ireland in the last quarter of 2015 a drop of 14 per cent on the same period the previous year.
Data usage is now the main growth area for mobile phone companies - the Communications Regulator says there's been a 56 per cent increase on 2014 figures.
Apps like Whatsapp, Viber and even Snapchat are being used more and more to communicate. Most times, these apps are being used over WiFi or as part of an unlimited data package.
Mobile phone bills are falling too, down now to an average of €24 a month.
