Are you getting married in 2020?
To celebrate the return of the Wedding Journal Show to City West in January we're taking a look at some of the biggest wedding trends we expect to see in 2020.
From nontraditional outfit choices to different takes on the ceremony, you'll find lots of inspo for your special day.
Dresses
From elegant long-sleeved dresses to cool off the shoulder designs, 2020 is set to be another year full of gorgeous, eye-catching dresses.
Long Sleeves
Long sleeved dresses are continuing their popularity right through to 2020. Flattering and chic, they are the perfect style for brides wanting to achieve a vintage look.
Lace
While lace has always been a popular fabric with brides, 2020 sees a more sophisticated makeover. Romantic, whimsical yet effortlessly elegant, lace is a simple and sophisticated option.
Off The Shoulder
Off-the-shoulder wedding dresses are another trend that isn’t going anywhere and every season they get a new lease on life. For 2020, minimalistic designs rule supreme. You will definitely turn heads as you glide up the aisle!
Sleek and Simple
Ever since Meghan Markle wowed the world in her fabulously simple Givenchy gown at her May 2018 wedding, it sparked a trend for clean, minimalistic dresses. Instead of loud materials and patterns, less is definitely more.
Statement Veils
Wearing a veil on your wedding day can alleviate your overall look. After Hayley Bieber wore her spectacular veil at her September 2019 wedding which had ‘Till Death Do Us Part’ embroidered in it, it will no doubt spawn a range of copy cats! Veils are designed in many styles with different patterns and edging, so it’s important to wear one that doesn’t overshadow your dress but rather compliments it.
Creative Groom Outfits
The days of traditional black tuxedos for grooms are gone. More and more we're seeing grooms play with fashion.
Mismatched jackets, loud patterns, reception outfit changes and even white trousers are just some of the fun elements grooms are adding to their outfits.
Intimate Ceremonies
Smaller ceremonies are becoming more popular as couples decide they want to share their special moment with those closest to them.
Now known as "micro weddings", less people means more budget to play with and also means the couple get to spend more one on one time with each guest.
Lighting
Lighting can really change a room and 2020 will see lots of creativity with setting the scene.
From large statement light structures to dainty fairy lights, you can set the perfect mood for the whole night.
Big Bouquets
Bold colours have been making their way into bouquets and it's a trend that is not going away.
Now we're seeing pops of colour combined with different textures, shapes and sprawling greenery to make up luscious, elaborate arrangements.
You can also continue your floral theme through out the day, in your hair, as backdrops or infused into drinks and food.
Sustainable/Eco Wedding
With everyone trying their best to help the planet, 2020 will be the year of the eco-wedding.
Couples who want to take some responsibility can upcycle, go plastic free, share decor with another wedding in the venue and recycle/donate flowers.
Also, why not ask people to replant trees as a wedding gift?
