Black Friday is here! The American tradition has caught on here in a big way, with Irish are shoppers expected to spend 100 million euro.
Traders in the US discount their stock the day after Thanksgiving, a bit like how we have St Stephen’s Day sales here in Ireland.
American businesses that had been running at a loss - and were in the red - would count on the Friday after Thanksgiving to get them back into the black.
It’s turned into a weekend long affair in Europe though because of ‘Cyber Monday’ – the busiest day for online shopping because people are placing orders in time to be delivered for Christmas.
We’ve compiled the discount codes for some of your favourite stores but here are a few words of warning:
Check the small print. Exclusions will apply especially in the likes of department stores where beauty and jewellery is rarely discounted.
Don’t forget to check the shipping charges and delivery dates.
The products discounted over Black Friday and Cyber Monday may not actually be cheaper than they were a month ago. That said, the odds are they won’t be any cheaper this side of Christmas.
The following are all EU web sites i.e. where your taxes and charges have been levied appropriately. But if you purchase anything from, say a US or Chinese web site, you could be hit with a bill from Revenue when it’s delivered. Take special care if you’re ordering from non EU sellers on Amazon, eBay, Etsy or other such sites.

Some of our favourite Dublin based designers are also getting on the Black Friday / Cyber Monday bandwagon.
As small, independent businesses their prices are understandably higher than massive retailers like Topshop. This weekend's deals make their clothes and jewellery more affordable.
Emma Manley's designs have been seen on Amy Huberman, Vogue Williams and most recently the Castleknock native designed the wedding dress of actress Aoibhin Garrihy:
Former DJ turned jewellery designer Jenny Huston's Edge Only has some BITCHIN' pieces:
