The world’s most popular streamer and Fortnite-expert Ninja has ditched Twitch and will move to Microsoft’s Mixer streaming platform.
The news was announced suddenly by Ninja on his Twitter account, by way of a fake press conference. During the reveal he was “asked” what this means for him and his stream, and he states that nothing will change, saying: “it’s the same me, just a different platform.”
Mixer is owned by Microsoft and is a direct rival to Amazon’s Twitch, so it’s most likely that Microsoft paid Ninja a handsome amount of money to make the move. Mixer has maintained a smaller, more friendly atmosphere than Twitch, and included console gamers more than Twitch has, which as always been aimed more at PC gamers.

It’s safe to say that most, if not all of Ninja’s 14 million Twitch followers will follow him over to Mixer, and it’s not clear if that will change the dynamic or atmosphere of Mixer for better or for worse.
Mixer are currently offering one month’s subscription to Ninja for free, and Ninja has already been de-verified on Twitch. More competition for viewers is almost always a good thing.
Ninja may have picked a bad day for timing though, as Season 10 of Fortnite kicks off today, but will be undoubtedly overshadowed by this news now.
