Just Eat is now offering drone delivery to some of its customers.
Takeaway lovers in Oranmore, Co. Galway will now be able to avail of drone delivery on the Just Eat app, in partnership with Camille Thai and drone delivery start-up Mana.
Customers select their dishes from the dedicated drone delivery menu, before they are dropped to a delivery point in under three minutes.
This is a first for the Just Eat platform, as the company continues to expand delivery options to meet growing customer demand.
The launch of Just Eat's takeaway drone delivery service was originally scheduled for early 2020, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Just Eat Managing Director Amanda Roche-Kelly said of the launch: “We’re thrilled to see this exciting partnership with Manna get off the ground and delighted that our Camile Thai customers in Oranmore will be the first to enjoy this new delivery option right to their door.
"It’s a real success story for technology in the takeaway food industry in Ireland, one that has continued to show its resilience and innovation in the face of all the challenges it has experienced over the past year.”
On whether we'll be seeing takeaway drone delivery rolled out throughout the country, Roche-Kelly said: "We are always working to introduce innovative new technologies that will support our partners’ efforts to meet our customers’ needs, so we’re hopeful that this partnership with Manna will give us the opportunity to give more customers the option of drone takeaway food delivery over the coming months.”
