Anyone who has been through tough times will know the power of 'hope'. Love is vital, yes. Faith is also important. But hope is the thing that gets you out of bed. If you've suffered years of anxiety, depression or emotional pain, the hope that things will get better, is the most comforting and soothing feeling of all. In many cases, people who've taken their own lives have lost all hope.

Pieta House is a Dublin charity that works with people who self-harm or feel suicidal. Now a Dublin designer has created a gold pendant engraved with the word 'hope' to raise money for the support centre in Lucan, Ballyfermot, Tallaght and Finglas.

Margaret O'Rourke, owner of MoMuse in the Powerscourt Centre, says Pieta House inspires hope and acceptance in people. Her wish is that this pendant inspires hope in others, serves as a special reminder or simply represents a sign of support.

At €65, this ain't no throw-away charity lapel pin. It's gold-filled and meant to be worn for life. You can also ask Margaret to engrave it with initials so the disc can be worn the other way around. That costs extra, but 100% of the proceeds are going to Pieta House.
