Lidl Period Poverty Initiative
Lidl is set to become the first major retailer to offer free period products.
The supermarket brand announced the news on social media this morning.
The Lidl Period Poverty Initiative launched in partnership with Homeless Period Ireland.
A statement released by the brand revealed that almost 50% of girls aged between 12 and 19 found it difficult to pay for sanitary products..
Lidl confirmed that the new initiative means those in need will be able to claim a dedicated coupon for a free box of sanitary pads or tampons per customer each month through the Lidl Plus app.
In addition, the brand will donate products each quarter to The Simon Community.

This will mean that people experiencing homelessness, who may not have access to a smartphone, can still access these essential products.
