It's the Fine Gael leaders second term in the role.

Leo Varadkar has just been elected as Taoiseach for a second time.

A majority of TDs in the Dáil backed him - marking the first time Fianna Fáil deputies have voted for a Fine Gael Taosieach

In his acceptance speech Varadkar will mention building on the work of his immediate predecessor and soon to be Tánaiste Micheál Martin - particularly when it comes to housing which will be the defining issue for the next term of Government.

He'll now travel to the Aras to meet President Michael D Higgins and get his seal of office, before returning to Government Buildings to begin reforming the Cabinet.

Independent TDs Peter Fitzpatrick, Noel Grealish, Michael Lowry, Denis Naughten, Marc MacSharry and Cathal Berry voted with the Government

Verona Murphy abstained.

Meanwhile earlier in the Dáil, Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald, wished Micheál Martin well but claimed his government has been failing people.
