Welcome home Derek
Derek Draper left hospital on Friday for the first time in over a year.
The 53-year-old was admitted with covid last March, which led to a number of serious health conditions.
However, the father of two is now home and Kate Garraway has shared an update on the family's first weekend together.
The Good Morning Britain presenter said that her husband absolutely know he was home, despite needing round-the-clock care.
Speaking on the morning show, Kate revealed:
We are over the moon and overwhelmed. It's like when you first bring home your first born home and you've been planning for nine months. It was a medical reason for coming home as well as our desire and his desire too, to try and encourage a more normal environment to stimulate his recovery, cognition, and consciousness better.
Derek is the UK's longest-suffering covid patient.
While he has been free from the virus since last summer, covid caused him kidney failure, liver damage, bacterial pneumonia, and pancreas and heart failure.

Kate was part of a recently released documentary about her husband's illness - Finding Derek aired on ITV last month.
The presenter is also releasing a book about Derek's Journey.
