There has been a 17 per cent increase in road deaths across the country this year compared to 2022.

There was a total of 92 road deaths in Ireland this year. These include 39 drivers, 21 pedestrians, 16 passengers, two e-scooter drivers/passengers, 12 motorcyclists, one pedal cyclist and one side car passenger.

These figures show that one in six fatalities were either a motorcyclist or a cyclist.

Cork, Galway and Mayo suffer from the worst road fatality rates nationwide with 10 deaths each so far in 2023.

Cork had 14 road deaths in 2022 - the worst of any county in Ireland.

Recent Collisions

Two people died on Irish roads this weekend alone. Yesterday, a man in his 50s lost his life after sustaining fatal injuries during a single vehicle motorcycle crash in Mullingar, Co Westmeath. On Friday, a 70 year old driver died after his car collided with a lorry on the N5 in CO. Roscommon.

The RSA say the amount of pedestrians and cyclist deaths is concerning. The organisation is urging motorists to reduce their speed and allow extra time for journeys.
