Irish people drink the equivalent of 2.5 bottles of wine each every week.
Figures from Revenue show, on average, we drank 11 litres of alcohol each in 2018.
It also works out as 46 bottles of vodka.
According to figures from Revenue, our intake of spirits has increased by 21% in the last 5 years.
One charity said the figures show we have a long way to go to bring our drinking patterns into a low risk category.
Eunan McKinney from Alcohol Action Ireland believes our drinking culture comes at a huge cost:
"We continue to see 1000 deaths a year and more related to alcohol", he said.
He also said that "At least 11% of our health budget each year is spent on alcohol related illnesses".
