Adopt don't shop.

That's the message the animal welfare organisation, My Lovely Horse Rescue, are working tirelessly to get out to the Irish public this Christmas.

It's a message repeated again and again yet charities like My Lovely Horse Rescue continue to see the sad results of pets bought for Christmas and not for life.

The shelter is home to many different rescued animals like (pigs, donkeys and cats to name a few!), and find this time of year is particularly busy.

The team at My Lovely Horse Rescue have teamed up with some well-known Irish faces, pleading with the public to adopt, don't shop this Christmas.

Names like Johnny Logan, Lucy Kennedy, Elaine Crowley, Pete the Vet, Rosanna Davidson, Terrie McEvoy, Fionnuala Moran, Enya Martin Comedian, Jenny Greene, Kevin Ryan, Peter Finn, Brendan Courtney, Laura Fox, Zainab Boladale, Keith Walsh, Shirlie Kemp and Norma Sheahan were among the Irish celebrities lending their voice to the campaign.

My Lovely Horse Rescue was set up 11 years ago by sisters Martina and Deborah Kenny with no funds and no background in horses. They met Irish singer-songwriter Cathy Davey when they were walking dogs in the park and now the 3 of them run MLHR as a safe haven for over 800 animals.

Their goals is to "educate as many animal owners as we can" and "to improve animal welfare throughout Ireland".

"To give all animals a life worth living, no matter what the cost".
