Dublin's new Pelletstown Station opened today, improving connectivity between the Ashington and Royal Canal Park communities.
It sits between the Ashtown and Broombridge stations on the Maynooth - M3 Parkway line, serving locals in Dublin 7.
Trains will take as few as 12 minutes to reach the city centre, with 94 locomotives a day stopping there on weekdays.
New footbridges at the site are also offering pedestrians and cyclists access to the Royal Canal Greenway.
It's the 145th station in the network, and the first new one to open since Oranmore Co. Galway began service eight years ago.
Delighted to mark the opening of Pelletstown station, the first of many new improvements we are funding on the Maynooth and M3 Parkway line. This new station will greatly benefit the communities of Ashington and Royal Canal Park by providing much-needed public transport options. pic.twitter.com/qLGJVpz7nr

Communications Manager at Irish Rail, Barry Kenny, says the opening is hugely important to the surrounding community:
"You've a well established community in Ashington, you've got new communities in Royal Canal Park and with 94 trains serving the station everyday it means that you're going to have options for public transport, 12 minutes to the city centre, that will really improve peoples quality of life, accessibility to work to leisure and to education, which of course is what public transport is all about."
