The number of security officers on the Luas has been increased by 30%.
It's after Transport Infrastructure Ireland found that women have serious concerns about using public transport, in its survey 'Travelling in a Woman's Shoes'.
The report shows 55% of women would not use public transport at night, and 34% have avoided travelling altogether because of safety worries.

Dr Hayley Mulligan, Violence Against Women officer at the National Women’s Council says the increased security is a welcome move:
"All reports suggest that people feel safer when there is a very visible presence of security people on all types of public transport, so that definitely adds to the sense of security.
"But we have wider issues outside of the actual time people spend on public transport. People walking to an from public transport is also highlighted."
A taxi driver in Dublin says women often tell him they are reluctant to travel on public transport:
"Quite a lot of the business I get would be from women who are afraid to travel on public transport and to be honest my family who are in the same boat, they wouldn't dream of travelling, particularly at night, the fear is always there."
