A huge new animated mural at Smithfield’s Haymarket Square is set to be the first of its kind in the city.
The 3D piece uses projection mapping technology to offer up two completely different perspectives - staying static during the day and coming alive with light, colour and movement by night.
Installed on the same wall that previously boasted a huge depiction of British grime artist Stormzy, the artists said it will "open up a portal to another world – right in the heart of Dublin 7."
Entitled 'Perpetua,' the project is a collaboration between well-known street artist James Earley and Dublin creative studio Algorithm.
In a statement, the team behind it said the project aims to "highlight the untapped potential for public spaces right across the city – and cement Smithfield’s place at the heart of the capital’s creative scene."
For his part, Earley said he is "very excited for the public to experience this collaborative artwork with Algorithm."
"We have fused our crafts to create a unique, interactive piece that we hope will inspire and push the boundaries within the realm of public art.
"The installation manipulates light, colour and movement to open up a portal to another world."
The project is supported by the National Irish Visual Arts Library (NIVAL), the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) and Dublin City Council.
NIVAL is encouraging members of the public to document the artwork on social media using the hashtag #PerpetuaMural.
Images posted using the hashtag will be collected and stored by the library's archive " as documentation of ephemeral artwork."
