Women are three times as likely to die by suicide in an area of West Dublin compared to the national average.

This is one of the findings in a new report by the HSE's Rapid Assessment and Community Response team.

This HSE investigation was launched after a cluster of suicides' among young women in the Ballyfermot and Cherry Orchard area last year.

Possible Factors

Domestic violence, drug use, housing and social media have been linked as possible factors behind the deaths.

The report found some women are afraid if they seek help their children could be taken from them.

Recommendations

The HSE says swift action is required to respond to the issues in the community.

It has made a number of recommendations including training programmes and a social media campaign of information.

If you have been affected by issues raised in this report you can contact Samaritans on 116 123.
