Irish Water is urging people not to buy or use paddling pools this summer.
A hosepipe ban will come into place across the country at midnight tonight for six weeks, lasting until the 21st of July.
Irish Water is taking the step after increased demand following the recent good weather, which put pressure on supplies.
Of its 900 drinking water schemes, 27 are at drought levels and 50 are at risk of going into drought.
Managing Director of Irish Water Niall Gleeson has this advice;
"Leave the hosepipe in the shed, don't use it for watering your garden, don't use it for cleaning your car, don't use it for cleaning a boat if you happen to have one."
He says they've seen swimming pools on sale that can hold 7,500 litres, the equivalent of sixty people's daily use of water.
