Homeowners living in the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown area of Dublin are facing higher property tax bills next year.
Traditionally local councillors voted for the maximum 15 per cent reduction to LPT but they failed to agree a rate last night. It means the full amount will be charged in 2021.
Homes in the district are some of the most expensive in the country, with price tags running into millions of euro for some.
Fine Gael councillor Jim O'Leary, who was in favour of the full reduction, said the move followed a warning from management about the council's finances;
"Covid is creating financial tensions for the council but their assumption is that 2021 is going to be a far worse year for the council than 2020 and none of the economic statistics bare that out at all. Things are getting better, not worse."
Meanwhile South Dublin County Council has gone with the maximum 15 per cent reduction to the tax.
While Fingal councillors voted to retain a 10 per cent cut to the charge.
