Health Officials Meet To Discuss Infection Rate, Confirm 364 Cases

Public health officials have met this this evening to discuss the rising Covid-19 infection rate.

They have also confirmed 364 new cases in the Republic today, with no new deaths.

Almost three quarters of today's cases are under the age of 45, and 27% are identified as community transmission.

100 cases are in Dublin, 55 in Cork, 31 in Donegal, 24 in Limerick and 23 in Galway.

Also, there are 17 in Clare, 14 in Sligo, 13 in Roscommon, 10 in Kerry, 8 in Tipperary and Wicklow with 7 in Kildare.

Finally there are 6 in Kilkenny and Offaly, 5 in each of Cavan, Mayo and Meath.

The remaining 27 cases are spread across 9 counties.

High Levels Of Infection In Multiple Counties

High levels of infection have been recorded in Dublin and Donegal, which are already on Level Three.

The outbreak has also hit Cork, Kildare, Limerick, Laois, Galway and Kerry in recent days.

NPHET will make recommendations on whether further restrictions are needed to try and stop the spread.

There's no announcement expected tonight.

However the cabinet is expected to consider the committee's advice in the morning.

The meeting tonight was chaired by the Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan.

Dr. Holohan has returned after a leave of absence on family grounds.
