Landscape workers in Dublin's north inner city have found a gun and a number of rounds of ammunition.
The discovery was made near the Luke Kelly statue in Dublin 1.
Gardaí at Store Street were alerted at around 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon that a gun had been unearthed at the Royal Canal Greenway.
Landscape work was being carried out at the time, leading to the find opposite Spencer Dock Bridge. A number of live rounds of ammunition was also discovered.
Gardaí believe the gun and ammunition was in place for a prolonged period of time. The scene was preserved and an examination was carried out.
Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
