The government is being called on to clarify its stance on foreign travel this summer, amid fears it could lead to a spike in imported coronavirus cases.

Senior health officials are urging anyone who has booked a holiday abroad to cancel it.

A 'safe list' of countries people can visit, without having to quarantine when arriving back, is currently being drawn up.

Professor of Immunology at Trinity College Dublin, Kingston Mills, believes a staycation is safer;

"I think people should be encouraged to go on holidays in Ireland this summer. I mean the Irish tourist industry needs a boost first of all, secondly it is safer. There's no doubt that travel is probably the riskiest thing a person can do right now in terms of contracting this virus."

Ryanair

It comes as Ryanair restarts 40 per cent of it's normal capacity from today.

It will mean 1,000 daily flights across Europe. For the last 10 days just 250 flights were taking off a day.

A number of safety measures have been introduced including mandatory face masks/coverings, fewer check bags, cashless in-flight services, and improved hygiene procedures.
