Some Gardai say they have had to Google new domestic violence laws to know how they work.
A conference has heard claims that training is too slow, or doesn't happen at all.
Members of AGSI, which is holding its annual conference, are complaining of a lack of training.
New domestic violence laws came into force in January.
However, AGSI claims many of its members have not been formally told how they should enforce them.
The Garda Commissioner has refuted claims from Gardaí that they're not being properly trained on new legislation.
Drew Harris says that he has looked into the matter himself.
He said "the information is there", on the Gardai's internal portal.
"Officers who specialise in this area have received training, and that training is ongoing", he said.
