The murder of Keane Mulready Woods has been described by Gardaí as a brutal, savage attack on a child.

The remains of the 17 year old were discovered in a sports bag in Coolock on Monday.

It's too early to say whether the remains found in a burnt out car in Ballybough, Co Dublin yesterday also belong to the teenager, but Gardaí believe that is the case.

The murder is related to the ongoing gang feud in Drogheda, where the 17 year-old was from.

Keane's life had recently been threatened and he went missing on Sunday night.

Chief Superintendent Christy Mangan has condemned the murder;

"This is a brutal savage attack on a child and is completely unacceptable in any normal democratic society."

A house in Rathmullan Park in Drogheda has been sealed off. Gardaí are are working to establish if it is the scene of the teenager's murder.

Gardaí are not sure what the exact motive is. They are appealing to anyone who may have seen Keane after 6pm on Sunday evening to come forward.

When last seen he was wearing a hugo boss tracksuit and runners, a red and orange jacket and a gucci baseball cap.

Speaking last night, Deputy Commissioner, Policing and Security, John Twomey said:

"An Garda Síochána is determined to bring those behind this shocking crime to justice. In recent years An Garda Síochána has made significant progress in tackling organised crime through arrests leading to convictions and major seizures of guns, drugs and cash. This focus will continue. As always, the help and support of communities is vital to this."
