Ash Wednesday
With Pancake Tuesday over, It's all about Ash Wednesday.
Over in the Galways, one local parish is offering locals the option of Drive-Thru ashes.
For the past few years St. Patrick's Church have been making Ash Wednesday just that bit easier for the people of Glenamaddy.
Once again they will be going the extra mile to ensure locals receive the traditional blessing today.
For those around the area, drive your car, bike, truck or tracktor into the church grounds from now until 9.30am.
The History
Today derives its name from the placing of repentance ashes on the foreheads of participants to either the words "Repent, and believe in the Gospel" or the dictum "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.
The ashes may be prepared by burning palm leaves from the previous year's Palm Sunday.
