Today's the 25th anniversary of the murder of the crime journalist Veronica Guerin.

She was shot dead on the Naas dual carriageway for her coverage of drug lords.

Brian Meehan was the only person convicted of her murder - after John Gilligan was tried and cleared.

Former assistant garda commissioner, Dr Pat Leahy, says he's disappointed more people weren't found guilty.

"There was a huge level of effort put into it."

"But I don't think the outcome was satisfactory for anyone involved, particularly the family."

He says everyone in the organisation will look back and wish it was "far more" successful than it was.

Dr Leahy says it'd have been, "really good" to bring it to a final conclusion, with everyone involved brought to justice.

CAB Has Scared Criminals

The Criminal Assets Bureau was set up as a direct result of Veronica Guerin's murder, according to Dr Leahy.

He says CAB was established as a result of the crime.

"It was out on it's own when it was established back in 1996."

"But it was renowned across the world for what it was doing."

He says it has "frightened criminals, like nothing has frightened them before."
