Michael Robinson, who played 24 times for the Republic of Ireland and who won a European Cup with Liverpool in 1984, has sadly passed away at the age of 61.
He had been battling skin cancer.
Robinson scored 4 goals for the national side between 1980 and 1986 and later carved out a successful television career in Spain.
He also had spells with Preston, Manchester City, Brighton, QPR and Osasuna.
His family issued a statement to say:
"With tremendous sadness we inform you of Michael's death. It leaves us with a great emptiness, but also countless memories, full of the same love that you have shown him. We will be eternally grateful to you for making this man SO HAPPY, he never walked alone. Thank you."
Robinson's season with Liverpool in 1983-84 was a memorable one, as the club won the First Division title, the English League Cup and the European Cup, defeating Roma on penalties in the final in Rome.
In all, he scored nine goals in 40 appearances for Liverpool.
Robinson scored three times as the Republic of Ireland narrowly missed out on qualification for the 1982 World Cup, netting against Cyprus, the Netherlands and France.
