A protest has taken place against the eviction of 50 families from their homes in Portobello
The demonstration was held outside the headquarters of a company that bought up the properties on South Richmond Street and Rosedale Terrace last November.
Tenants say their new landlord, Val Issuer Dac, is evicting them to carry out renovations.
In November 2018, the tenants received letters from their management company, saying that their apartment buildings had been sold.
A few months later the vulture fund, Val Issuer Dac, sent them eviction notices.
The company told residents it needed them to vacate the properties so it could renovate them.
However, many of the tenants don't believe extensive renovations will be carried out.
The families at the centre of the row say the situation they're in is "infuriating". One resident who has been living there for seven years said "this company trying to make profit out of people with low incomes, or minimal incomes. It's disgraceful to see so many children and families at risk of eviction."
People Before Profit activist, Siomha ní Aonghusa, suspects the company wants to begin new leases at higher prices.
She said the landlord "is using "renovation" as an excuse to jack up the rents, and furthermore, does not have the court order required to legally evict them."
One tenant, Ramon agreed. "We want this vulture fund to withdraw the eviction notice," he said. "We don't want more people homeless. We tried to find a new apartments and we tried to find new places to live. It is impossible."
The tenants have reached out to the Dublin Renters Union and People Before Profit and formed a tenants action group to resist the eviction.
It's been part of a series of protests they've held in the past while.
