Hopes of remote workers being able to avail of a TaxSaver ticket for public transport a few days a week have been dashed.
The National Transport Authority says developing the scheme for hybrid employees, on the days they go into their workplace, has become considerably more complex than envisaged.
Commuters can save between 31 and 52% on their journeys. However, the transport body says it's been unable to develop a three or two-day TaxSaver ticket.
Fine Gael Senator John McGahon is accusing the NTA of ditching the project;
"What I'm deeply frustrated about is that over the last 18 months of very positive messages from the NTA to say that they would introduce it, they wanted to introduce it, as recently as October/November of 2021 it was going to be introduced at the end of Q1 IN 2022 and now at the end of the 11th hour the NTA have pulled the plug on this."
