The Dublin commuter coalition has welcomed funding for the DART extension.
Yesterday the EU confirmed it would supply €8.8m that will go toward the design phase of the multi-billion euro project.
Plans are to bring electrified rail services from Maynooth, Celbridge and Drogheda into Dublin city centre.
But the group says the project has been slow to get off the ground.
PRO Feljin Jose says it cannot be overstated how important this is for Dublin:
The fact that the European Union has given this money is just testament to how important this is.
"You'd get ten minute trains, electric trains on all those routes coming into Dublin."
"So it'd be a major boost in capacity for commuter routes."
"Like it's a massive project that would completely transform the Eastern rail network."
This will be a great boon for all the Kildare people who came to Limerick when I was in college and told us they were from Dublin, because us culchies can’t tell the difference. One step closer for them pic.twitter.com/AWks5Dyocn

They Don't Make It Easy To Get Hold Of Information
However Feljin says the Commuter Coalition has been frustrated by how difficult it is to get information on the project:
"It's not like the NTA, Luas or Bus Connects projects where we have a more open or transparent process."
"It's pretty much an in house Irish Rail project."
"The best way to get info on this project is to look for job offers or tenders for consultants."
