The organisers of Electric Picnic are calling for clarity on whether the festival can go ahead.

It follows comments by the Chief Medical Officer that there are no public health concerns around outdoor events for vaccinated people.

The CMO said today there wouldn't be any major public health concerns for an outdoor event for vaccinated people only, such as Electric Picnic.

Dr Tony Holohan added that he was hopeful of Covid restrictions being eased 'well before' Christmas, but added that current disease control does need to be better.

It comes as 1,571 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed today, with NPHET due to meet tomorrow to analyse the current situation surrounding the virus.

Statement from Melvin Benn of Festival Republic, following comments from Tony Holohan on how Electric Picnic can go ahead if attendees are fully vaccinated: "It’s hard for me to believe want I just read but I want to. We are asking Laois County Council to immediately reverse the decision it took to refuse the licence and grant it immediately in line with the CMO’s conditions: that everyone attending should be vaccinated, exactly as we said a month ago. "What a springboard to the future this could be. Change the decision Laois County Council and let’s have the Picnic. Tell us tomorrow and we are on our way."
